Getting Started

Welcome to the Bulky Beanie crochet course!

I'm Abbey - the owner, designer and teacher of The Firefly Hook. I learned to crochet when I was 7 years old and I've been a crochet designer and teacher since 2013. I'm so excited to help you learn to crochet!

In this course, we will cover these skills:

  • Slip knot
  • Chain
  • Working in the round
  • Increasing
  • Single crochet
  • Slip stitch
  • Finishing off

Videos:

The Bulky Beanie video shows you how to make the beanie from start to finish. We cover all the skills listed above as you watch an entire hat being made. You should expect to spend about 2 hours to complete your beanie. Feel free to pause the video at any point to catch up or rewind to review.

If you prefer a slide show of photos showing step-by-step instructions - those are available too! These videos include the slip knot, chain, single crochet in the chain, single crochet in the stitch, and finish off.

FIVE downloadable patterns:

You will have access to these five patterns and you can download them directly from the class page:

  1. Bulky Beanie
  2. La Mecha Beanie
  3. Simply Infinite Scarf
  4. Back Loop Beginner Cowl
  5. All About That Pom

Support:

You will have the support of other students as well as my online community as you work through this course. You can upload photos to the class page (under any of the lectures!) so we can see what you are seeing and help troubleshoot or even just confirm that you are on the right track. If you are really stuck, we can get a small group to join a Google Hangout session so we can talk through your project.
